What is Atlas Orthogonal?
What is Atlas Orthogonal
Atlas Orthogonal is a very gentle and effective approach to chiropractic. The idea is that when the top bone in the spine, known as the atlas, is misaligned many problems may begin to occur. Symptoms vary from headaches, neck , back ,knee and hip pain, numbness or tingling, fatigue and many others.
Atlas Orthogonal doctors require more training then the traditional chiropractor, which qualifies them to identify a subluxated or misaligned atlas. The instrument that Dr. Lynch uses to realign the atlas was designed to deliver a precise chiropractic adjustment based on the specific findings from your x-rays. In this way a very precise correction of the spine occurs without twisting, popping or cracking. The adjustment is given with the patient lying on their side. “This method of gentle and precise spinal correction makes it possible to reproduce the exact adjustment every time,” says Dr. Keith Lynch.
It is a fact that only 10% of nerves carry pain fibers, so when the body is experiencing pain it is a good sign that the other 90% of nerves in that area are also functioning improperly. Most of the nerves in the body run right through the atlas, along with blood vessels. So when the atlas becomes misaligned, many of these nerves and vessels can become impinged or “pinched”. This leads to improper nerve function and poor oxygenation in the entire body. This means that all bodily functions, from breathing, digesting, elimination and hormone regulation are not functioning at 100%, and healing is compromised due to the lack of oxygen getting to the muscles and brain.
Beginning to sound important? Since the duty of the atlas is to support the head and to keep it centered over the rest of the neck and body, when the atlas is misaligned, the head’s position becomes twisted, torqued or leaning. So what does the rest of the body do? It compensates to try and keep the head centered and balanced. Since the body compensates on its own, the hips can be drawn up on one side in an attempt to level out the head , creating a “short leg”. In some cases one’s leg may be “shorter” than the other. This means that scoliosis, back knee and hip pain, neck pain and headaches can all occur simply from the atlas being out of its proper position! This can normally be corrected by adjusting the atlas along with the rest of the spine.
Hopefully now you can understand how imperative it is to keep the atlas in its proper position. Remember that most practitioners neglect this very important factor.
